The Returned

He used to be an old gunslinger who was friends with the person who's now the lich and together they uncovered a power source that could keep anything alive and bring anything to life. The returned was betrayed by the lich but returned as a spirit by the power of the artifact.
Why are they in the Gungeon? What's the past they are trying to kill?
He came to the Gungeon to stop his old friend the lich and to make it so the artifact never kept existing.
Special attributes
I had 2 different concepts in mind. Either he would would permanently lose a heart after losing a full heart to damage or he would only get a certain amount of time to clear each floor so that his soul doesn't fade away.
